Help, Hope and freedom from addiction

Turn Around is unique in that we are able to take a client who is alcohol dependent and offer them community detox, rehabilitative education, academic education, social skills and aftercare all "under one roof". We will support the clients' needs to take the steps towards a rewarding, fulfilling future - a life beyond addiction and the usual and inevitable spiral into a life of crime.

Each client who joins the programme has a personally tailored care plan together with an individual assessment and consultation in order to explore their employment and educational options. This includes, but is not restricted to:

  • To provide an abstinence, 12 step based programme focussing on negative behaviours and attitudes.
  • Group Therapy - peer group challenging and feedback
  • Lectures - educational and experiential
  • Goal Setting
  • Discussion groups
  • Relapse prevention
  • Anger and Stress Management
  • Community Volunteering
  • "Finding Your Job"; Employment goal setting and Action Planning
  • Employment skills: applications, CV's, Interview techniques, etc
  • Return to work benefit advice and practical support
  • Workshops (social and academic); crafts, healthy eating, budgeting, yoga etc

In our opinion in order for a client to be able to maintain any form of employment they must first establish rehabilitative care. Clients out of work for long periods of time have either lost or have little opportunity of gaining qualities such as commitment, determination and self discipline - qualities expected from an employer.

Education and training opportunities are not always accessed by this particular client group due to lack of confidence, low self worth and fear. Many clients have poor or no key skills/qualifications.

Dependency on alcohol leaves many people without a job or home. Turn Around offers not just a comprehensive treatment programme, but also the educational and training opportunities required to enable the client to return to work/education.

Turn Around believes that everyone should have any equal opportunity to work. Without work and training opportunities an individual is to be disadvantaged and excluded from society. This can also have a 'knock-on-effect' within the family environment.

Employers want people with commitment, determination and self discipline. These are the qualities clients out of work for long periods of time have lost, or have little opportunity to acquire and demonstrate. In practical terms it is impossible to break the programme down into employment training and therapeutic work as from day one they are mutually dependent.

Volunteering in the community allows the client 'to practice' the academic and social skills taught at Turn Around. Volunteering empowers the client, encourages the development of working habits and routines, helps to re-establish individual responsibility as well as contributing positively to the community in which they live. This element takes place at the same time as the exploration into education and employment options. Continued contact with Turn Around at this stage supports the client in improving/reviewing strategies of coping with stressful work situations, maintaining their goal settings, improving weaknesses and putting in place the precursors of returning to full time work/education.

Support can also be provided to the individual's family as well as back to work provision for clients who are still in work but run the risk of loosing their employment. Built into this programme is an aftercare/mentoring element that the client can access when in employment, therefore helping to maintain motivation. Employment means not only an income but also the opportunity to live as an integrated and positive member of society.

Clients will be encouraged to commence to build a portfolio of certificates to include, but not restricted to:

  • First Aid
  • Health and Safety in the Work Place
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Lifting & Handling
  • In-house training courses

It is believed that each client will attain a state of emotional and personal stability through a process of change which will be brought about by regaining a sense of self worth and personal responsibility, thus enabling them to return to full time work/education.
